The annual four week festival is produced by Scotland's leading live art producer and promoter New Moves International (NMI), which presents radical live and mediated performance work within the context of international festivals. With its multifaceted approach – involving new commissions, professional development programmes, platforms for new and emerging artists and the showcasing of leading international performance artists, NMI provides a framework for developing and sustaining live art practice in Scotland.

Scotland's growing provision of academic courses dedicated to live art practice; the country's increasing appeal to students to study and artists to reside here due to an awareness that live art is recognised as a legitimate creative practice by the wider Scottish cultural industries as well as increasing development opportunities for live art practice make Scotland and Glasgow in particular, the place to be for what's new, brave and bold in hybrid art forms.

New Moves International is funded by the Scottish Arts Council and Glasgow City Council. Additional financial support has been received from: Arts Council England; Goethe Institute, Glasgow; Délégation génerale du Québec; Japan Foundation, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation; The Royal Dutch Embassy of London; Pro Helvetia; The Mexican Embassy and Austrian Embassy, London.
